2002 Walnut Valley Mandolin Champion Crowned

Winfield, Kansas… Scott Schmidt of Bartlesville, Oklahoma became the 2002 Walnut Valley Mandolin Champion Friday, September 20^{th at the 31st annual Walnut Valley Festival. The 16 year old high school student out played 22 other musicians from 13 different states to claim the title. Scott is no stranger to the Mandolin contest at Winfield; he finished third in the 2001 competition. Besides being a world class mandolin player, Scott also plays the guitar, bass, tenor banjo, and other instruments in the mandolin family such as the Irish bouzouki. Scott received a Weber Yellowstone, carved top mandolin from Sounds to Earth, LTD. from Belgrade, Montana. A custom made mandolin case from Pegasus Case Company, Scotland.}
